When major currencies such as the Euro and the US Dollar begin to totter, people get nervous and turn their attention to gold and silver. Now that both the USA and the EU have been hit by government debt and soft currencies, the flight to metal can be expected to continue.

Also, the rise of China and India has generated an ever increasing demand for precious metals that is set to continue into the foreseeable future, making gold and silver even more attractive investments.

For the ordinary person, however, it can be quite tough, to find a good way to collect or invest in precious metals with a limited budget.

However, this situation has opened up a window of opportunity for some quick-witted Internet marketers. While the price of gold has shot up, silver is rising more slowly and is, of course, much cheaper to buy than gold. Some Internet marketers have responded by starting network marketing companies that deal in silver.

The selling point of those network marketing companies is the promise of "free silver" for anybody who can "recruit a team" of people who are looking buy small quantities of silver coins or one ounce silver bullion bars every month, or who want to recruit others to the business. Once you get three or four people to buy into the network, you effectively get commissions in the form of "free silver".

Attractive as this sounds, there is, of course, a "problem"... Firstly, the price of the silver products are usually a lot higher than the current price of silver bought through established silver dealers. So the affiliates who try and find buyers have to get over the big hurdle of "price" and they do that by holding out the promise of "free silver" to anybody who joins the team and recruits three or four people to buy silver.

Unfortunately, people with little or no experience of success with network marketing (i.e. over 99% of the population) are likely to get burned by the experience, no matter how good the marketing materials of the network marketing company may be.

Secondly, to build an active team and enjoy the rewards of "free silver" you are going to have to work hard and be persistent. Yet, most people join network companies in the hope that sales will look after themselves and that they can "make money" on other peoples efforts and the "spillover" structure of the MLM company.

What other options are there for ordinary people to invest in silver coins or bars, one or two pieces at a time?
