How can I remove solder from my coin?
I have a gold coin thats 90% pure gold and 10% copper.
It was soldered to a pin before and some solder is still on it.
I have a 700degrees F soldering Iron but it doesn't melt it at all. WTF? How do I get this solder off?!?
one more thing...if I'm trying to sell my coin to a coin dealer with the solder on it, will he offer me much less for it?
First of all, coins that are used in jewelry have wear on usually one side only, so a coin dealer would know that. A jeweler could remove the solder. It depends on the coin as to it's value after being used as a jewelry item. A lot of the gold coins used in jewelry are common most of the time, so have no real collectors value, only gold value. If you have such a coin then it is not worth it, to pay for the removal of the solder. On questions like this one, no one can give you a real straight answer unless you tell us what he coin is.
