Customizing your Own Challenge Coin
Designing your own challenge coin can be difficult, especially if it’s your first time doing it. You might have a plan in mind of how your coin will look, but once you draft it onto paper, it may look totally different to what you imagined. It helps to have an artistic eye when facing this task. Going to school isn’t necessary to become a coin designer, but the key element is creativity.
When you first sit down to sketch out your coin’s design, consider a few essential factors for your challenge coin:

symbolism
color
uniqueness
The theme of your challenge coin should be what it’s representing. If you want it to signify membership, unity, or support for your organization, include your organization’s name so it can be imprinted on the coin. The theme of your coin is the element that chooses what symbols or colors to include, so make sure that the theme or purpose of your coin is what you want your coin to reflect.
The style of the coin should mirror the theme you choose. Think about the style of lettering, what designs to include, whether your designs should look 3D, and so on. If you have a motto, mascot, or logo that symbolizes your group or organization, think of how to incorporate the images or writing with the rest of your designs.
Color helps make your coin design more appealing. When thinking what colors to include, try different combinations. It may take a little patience to find the right one. Test different arrangements of colors until you find a set that you like.
Uniqueness is especially important to bring into your challenge coin’s design. The worst thing that could happen is to find someone else’s coin to be very similar to yours. It may not have the same theme, but a similar style of curly letters or the same combination of colors. Try to use creativity to your advantage in order to create a one-of-a-kind challenge coin, which would only be found in the hands of your group’s members.
Once you consider all of these elements when customizing your very own challenge coin, remember that you want your coin to be appreciated. Think of a design that all members will admire so all your hard work is not wasted. The challenge coin is a treasure that will become a cherished representation of your organization. It shows gratitude to the members for being dedicated to the group, so let them value your work.
